There are two general types of internet services:
- Letting you see others
- Letting others see you
In Tandem Design, Inc. is primarily involved with letting others see you. We can design and publish a Web site for you. We can design a Web site to be hosted by another server, or we can host web sites provided by you. When others want to find out about you, they connect to the internet through their own service provider and come to your web page. They might find you by knowing your web page address or by finding you through other internet resources.
If you want to see others, you need a connection to the internet. In Tandem Design, Inc. does not provide that service. Dial-up or continuous connections to the Internet are available from many Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
Our primary client base is businesses who want to conduct business over the internet. We can help you determine what you need, let you know what can and can't be done within your budget constraints, and implement a good solution with art and technology working in tandem for you.

Web Page Design
In Tandem Design, Inc. is oriented toward both design and technology working in tandem to provide good visual communications. The World Wide Web is a relatively new venue with some different rules. However, our experience in print media design and production can help us provide an appealing product for you. And our technical expertise will ensure that your message is delivered efficiently and without error.
This In Tandem Design, Inc. Web site has examples within it of informational documents, downloadable Acrobat® *.pdf documents, FTP file transfers initiated from within the web page, e-mail initiated from within the web page, hot links to other web sites, forms that an be sent to us from the Web site, and many other features that can be incorporated into your web pages. You might find the information within our web pages useful; you might also find the features in it applicable to your own World Wide Web solution.
The design of a web page can be considered a single project, or an ongoing evolution. Either way, we can help you with yours. And when it is ready for publication, we can publish it for you, or provide files to be published on another Web server. By publishing through us or for a small monthly fee, you will be included in the Maryland Business Forum.

Web Site Hosting
In Tandem Design operates a multi-server internet site. We use Macintosh® servers for the World Wide Web, for e-mail, for Domain Name serving, and for FTP transfers. Your Web site reside on these servers. If your needs are great, we will set up or provide connectivity for a dedicated server for you at our site (Co-location).
We constantly monitor the utilization of our servers and connections, and will add slaved servers as capacity is reached. We have redundant equipment, for the unlikely event of equipment failure. We have a full T1 connection to the internet, and bandwidth will be increased as needed. The equipment is monitored for two shifts each day, is on for 24 hours a day, and is on uninterruptable power supplies. We can assure you that your information will be available to your clients and associates whenever they want it.

E-mail
If you need an e-mail address for yourself or a department in your company (which might receive forms and communications from clients through your web pages), we will provide that on our e-mail server. You will be able to get to it from anywhere on the internet. If you have a need to set up many e-mail addresses, we will dedicate an e-mail server to you.

Co-Location
If you have an internet server set up, or if your needs dictate a dedicated machine, it can be located at our site and connected to the Internet with our high-speed connection (called "Co-location" or "Colocation"). We can provide Domain Name Service for your domain name. Your system could be set up for remote administration, or for administration by in Tandem Design. Co-location allows for your Web site to be completely, physically isolated form your company computer system(s), thereby providing an absolute guarantee that your company records cannot be accessed or "hacked" through the Web server. Note, however, that security of your company computers and network can be compromised by your own connection to the Internet, whether through a dial-up or a continuous connection. We can help evaluate your security, or recommend experts who can help you protect yourself from unwanted cyber attacks.

Maryland Busniess Forum
In Tandem Design's Maryland Business Forum is a Web site with categories of businesses. When the site is visited, the visitor can choose a business category. Within that category are business names, addresses, and phone numbers listed. If that business has a Web site or e-mail address, the visitor can link directly to it from this forum.
