Indians in Maryland When the European settlers arrived, there were different tribes, or groups, of Indians living all over Maryland. Here is a map of the location of some of these people. It is based on a map made by John Smith in the early 1600s as he explored what we now call Virginia.  Look it over closely to identify the Indian people that lived in the area where you live now.
