Activity 1 - Tragic Losses at SeaLet's go to some web sites that tell the stories of different tragedies at sea throughout history. As you read through each of the stories, determine which of the dangers that you have just read about caused each tragedy. Record the year and the cause(s) on your Combating Dangers at Sea Worksheet. Ask your teacher for a printout of that Worksheet if you don't already have one. Here is a nautical dictionary that will help you find the meaning of unfamiliar terms in the rest of this lesson. Remember to use the "Back" button on your web browser to return to the lesson after viewing each site. Look back over the dates and causes of these tragedies. Have the dangers stayed the same throughout history, or have they changed? Record your thoughts on your Worksheet and explain your answers.
