Population Change

Did you think of any differences between where you are and some of the interesting places Pride of Baltimore II has visited or might visit? One difference that you might have thought of is the number of people that live there. Places with more people (denser populations) usually have more stores, houses, streets, schools, and other buildings. Over time, communities grow or shrink depending upon how many people choose to live in them.

In this Maryland Exploration, you will investigate how the population in Maryland changed between 1790 and 1830. That was a very important time in Maryland's history, as you know if you have completed the lesson on the National Road or the War of 1812. The time period is special for Pride of Baltimore II, too. The ship that she is modeled after, Chasseur, was built during that time.
