 Challenge 4:
Wind Energy in the European Union

As the countries of Europe talk to each other about unification, they have tried to decide on some common solutions to problems such as health care, energy, cultural diversity and caring for the environment. How do the renewable energy policies of countries being visited by Pride compare to one another and to the policies of the European Union?

Pride of Baltimore II is a replica of a 1812 era topsail schooner.jpg. During the 19th century, these schooner.jpgs were only powered by wind. Several Member States are already using wind power and others are investigating its potential. In its White Paper for a Community Strategy and Action Plan, even the Commission commented that the first signs of large-scale implementation of wind energy and solar thermal collectors were appearing.

To learn more about wind energy and the European Union, read the Communication from the Commission: energy for the future: renewable sources of energy. You may also wish to visit the sites listed in the challenge on European Unification.
