Challenge 2:
Health Care
in the
European Union

© 1999-2000 www.arttoday.com

As the countries of Europe talk to each other about unification, they have tried to decide on some common solutions to problems such as health care, energy, cultural diversity and caring for the environment. How do the health care policies of countries being visited by Pride compare to one another and to the policies of the European Union?

The Treaty on European Union states that "the Community shall contribute towards ensuring a high level of human health protection" (Article 129). Article 152 states that all citizens of the European Union are entitled to public health care.

To read more about health care in the European Union, read the official communication of the European Commission on this topic. You may also wish to visit the sites listed in the challenge on European Unification.
