Part 7 - Plankton Play Off!
The final part of the lesson gives you a chance to show off how much you now know about plankton, and it lets you be creative, too! You may choose the activity that you would like to do, or you can choose to do them both. If your teacher would like, you can do this part of the lesson with a partner. You will be doing the final copy (use scrap paper to plan your plankton project) of your plankton project on a copy of the Plankton Play Off worksheet that your teacher will give you.
Plankton Project Option 1
Suppose that you could become a plankton. Would you be a phytoplankton or a zooplankton? Draw what you would look like and give yourself an interesting name. This particular plankton does not have to actually exist; it can be a new creation of your own!. Label yourself as a phytoplankton or a zooplankton. Now write a descriptive paragraph about your life as a plankton. Be sure to include a description of your "looks" (your appearance), where you live, how you live, and what purpose you serve. You might want to have a partner assist you in proofreading and editing your paragraph before your teacher reads it.
Plankton Project Option 2
Design a "Wanted" poster. Choose a phytoplankton or a zooplankton, and draw it on the poster. Label it as a phytoplankton or a zooplankton, and give its name. You may add a first or last name of your own to its proper name! Give your plankton some almost human characteristics. Include a description of what the critter is "wanted" for or who it are "wanted" by. Add where this critter was last seen, what it was doing, and where it is likely to be "found."
Check your poster for correct spelling and other possible mistakes. You may want to have a classmate check it with you before your teacher sees it.
