What If You'd Like To Do More?

  1. Read the Teacher's Log to see what the Teacher Aboard, Leslie Bridgett, wrote when she traveled through the Panama Canal! Can you see any photographs of Panama's main exports?

  2. A fun extension for elementary students could be to research your own local marketplaces in your home town. Some of the rural towns will still have Saturday markets. Are they located in the center of the town?

A follow-up could be to find out what marketplaces are called in different countries. For example, in Mexico it is called the marcado; in Greece it is called the agora.

  3. For middle school students who want more information on Panama and the Panama Canal, you can go to two Web sites that have general information for country reports and maps.

The World Factbook from the CIA has the major facts about every country in the world as well as detailed maps.

A second Web site is part of National Geographic's Map Machine Atlas and also gives a map and basic facts about Panama.

  4. A challenging activity for middle schoolers would be to visit the Panama Teleport Smart Business City Web site and discover what this large international business park has to offer the global commerce trade.
