In the Pacific region, there is another variety of the oyster that is raised, harvested, and prized by the people there, just like we value our Eastern oyster here. Asians use their oysters for food and the harvesting of oysters provides lots of people with jobs, just like fisheries in the Bay provide income for lots of Marylanders.

Take a look at these Web sites to learn a little bit about the Pacific oyster (it is also called the Japanese oyster). You do not need to take any notes, but read carefully, because soon you will have to decide whether or not you would support introducing this oyster to the Bay. Your reasons will need to include some facts about this oyster.
