Outposts and Other Special Program Features

There are many outpost camps around Broad Creek. Your patrol or troop might want to take an overnight to one of them while at Summer Camp.

SCUBA Diving Each Week!

A SCUBA diving program will be available each week! Scouts spend from 9 to 3 each day at Guppy Gulch learning SCUBA diving. A Scout must be 14 years old in calendar 2008 to participate. More about this is the near future. Watch the Web site and the Area Scouter.

Horsemanship Merit Badge

Horsemanship Merit Badge will be offered each week of summer camp as a one-day course on Monday. Scouts must be at least 12 years old. Scouts registered for this program will be transported to Hunting Ground Farms by Broad Creek staff. The program runs from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM each Monday. If a Scout completes the entire program, he will earn the merit badge.

Hunting Ground Farms is a Maryland certified camp located about one mile from Broad Creek. The program will be run by counselors at Hunting Ground Farms. Scouts must complete a Hunting Ground Farms Release and Waiver form to participate (available from Camping Services and on the BCMSR Web site).

The cost of the program is $70 per Scout in addition to the summer camp fee. Program limited to 16 per week.

Each Scout will have to fill out the Hunting Ground Farm Release and Wiaver form.

Older Scout Adventure

Special Program Features of Broad Creek Summer Camp include:

Voyager Trek

An experience to challenge the older Scouts. This is a combination hiking, canoeing and kayaking trip up the Susquehanna River into Pennsylvania. Scouts will hike down Broad Creek to the marina at Broad Creek Landing. There they will pick up the canoes and kayaks. They will paddle six miles north on the Susquehanna River to an exciting overnight adventure in southern Pennsylvania. Scouts will cook a wilderness dinner and learn of low impact camping. After a trail breakfast they will paddle back down stream to camp before the morning merit badge classes begin.

Kayaking

Another new program is the Kayak Challenge. An exciting new experience on Lake Straus, as well as on the Susquehanna River. Scouts learn the skills of kayaking that could be used on white water.

Mountain Biking

An exciting new program being offered is our Mountain Biking Adventure. A mountain biking course is setup on three skill levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. The camp will have several bikes available for Scouts to check out; however, we encourage Scouts to bring their own equipment and helmets as longs as they meet our standards.
