Mason Dixon Trek

Philosophy: This program is designed to give a new experience for those Scouts and Scouters who have attended summer camp for several years. It will challenge youth and adults to test their skills in the wilderness in the following way: leadership, teamwork, communications, cooking, wilderness survival, orienteering, navigation, problem-solving, and goal-setting. Objective: The Mason-Dixon Trek is a program for Scouts ages 14 and older. Participants will hike, bike, backpack, canoe, kayak, cave and rock climb/repel. They will cook meals and camp in tents using the low impact camping style. Resource: The program will take place within the outlying regions of Broad Creek Memorial Scout Reservation, the Susquehanna River, the Conestoga Trail, the Mason-Dixon Trail and the Chesapeake Bay. Staffing: The staff will consist of a 21 year-old or older camp school certified voyager trained adult and a 18 year-old or older assistant trained in COPE or Aquatics. The Ranger Corps of Broad Creek will provide the support staff. Equipment: Participants will be required to provide a backpacking frame, boots and climbing clothing. The camp will supply tents, crew gear and food. (see What to Bring (a printable check list).
